e’re told not to judge a book by its cover, but it’s a well-known truth that a book cover helps decide who picks it up in the first place. Just as often, the quality of the interior influences whether they keep reading long enough to finish the story, or choose to leave a review. Design work is as important to the artistry of a book as its writing and editing.

All this is to say that designing book covers and interior layouts has been a darling little hobby of ours since 2019! The bulk of our personal experience lies in genre fiction, especially queer fiction and fantasy. We’re happy to work with both mainstream genres and niche genre fusions. A favorite design convention of ours is combining illuminated manuscript references with colorful and eye-catching stylization. Stay tuned for more of that in the future!

Book Covers

Some of these are due for an update, and we have more in the works.

The cover of Shadow Herald. The cover features golden filigree framing remniscent of illuminated manuscript detailing, and a cartoony art style with textured pen strokes. Navaeli, a girl with a purple headscarf folded down around her neck, stares nervously at the reader. Her hair is made of feathers, and an ominous wind kicks up feathers around her. Behind her is a looming shadow of a woman with wings.
The cover of Breathing Gods. A heavily-armored Regent Elaina stands in a citadel courtyard, snarling. She is lit by the glow of her elaborate sword, Brightfate, and the sun and the stars swirling through the blackened sky.
The cover of The Fatal Dragonnapping of Princess Magnolia. The cover is blue, with a faint floral background of woodsorrel and magnolia flowers, and gilded corner edges and text. It features an open locket. The pictures inside the locket are of a melancholy princess in a pink dress, and a smiling young man with a scraggly mustache and a blue vest. Surrounding the locket is a blue dragon and a twinned pair of swords The tagline reads thus; what if you don't want to be saved?
The cover of The Ghosts of Grimmigkeit Manor. Three siblings stand in front of old-fashioned wallpaper. Eustace, a blond man in a t-shirt and jeans, glowers at Alison, a bemused woman in gothic neo-rococo attire. Between them is Dirk, a nervous, heavyset man in a mesh shirt under a sleeveless hoodie. Behind them linger ghostly shadows, one of which reaches many hands out to grasp the unaware trio.
The cover of Winter Herald. The cover features golden filigree framing remniscent of illuminated manuscript detailing, and a cartoony art style with textured pen strokes. Meparik sits on the edge of a roof, staring out at the reader with icy, haunted eyes. On his right is a white crow wearing a wooden-beaded necklace with an acorn pendant. Behind them all sprawls the city of Talimour, dusted with snow and overshadowed by dark clouds.
The cover of Starlit Prince. The cover features golden filigree framing remniscent of illuminated manuscript detailing, and a cartoony art style with textured pen strokes. Prince Alaezel stands in a warmly-lit observatory; the sky outside is dark blue and starry, bathing him in this constrasting glow. He stands with a sheepish slouch, holding onto an Alluari fountain shaped like a small woman. The water of the fountain flows out of a hole in her head, draping her like waves of hair.
The cover of Solarboys. Two boys ride on a motorcycle. In the background, the sun sets over a highway cutting through the midwestern prairie.
A book cover for Galactic Empress. Empress Glissandrah, a cute green alien with pointy ears, three purple eyes, and white hair floats in space. In her hands is a small device that shoots out a hologram field of some sort, spelling out the title.
The cover of Ember Warrior. The cover features golden filigree framing remniscent of illuminated manuscript detailing, and a cartoony art style with textured pen strokes. Crislie stands in a blooming forest, resting her ax on her shoulder with a cocky stare. On her left is Daughi, a massive black direwolf bearing her teeth in a terrifying-cute yawn. Daughi is saddled, and Crislie is armored for battle.
The cover of Children of Snow. This cover will be described more soon.
The cover of Mindhive. It features a drawing of a wooden desktop with papers and photos spilling out of a file folder. The photos show partial face profiles of three people; a smiling man with glasses, a person with long wavy hair and unfilled piercings, and a sharp-featured woman with her hair in a ponytail and a slight smirk on her face. The tabletop also contains a strange USB drive with a camera inset in it, and a bullet-syringe contraption, leaking blue fluid on the desk. A couple splotches of blood also dapple the desktop.
